Local Republican Party Chief Tony Krvaric got fired up last weekend over a tweet from Keith Jones, the owner of Ace Parking.

Jones had tweeted that his grandfather, super booster Malin Burnham, had asked District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis to leave the race. Krvaric seemed to think this was a problem for Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, whom Burnham supports for the job.

I agreed it would be at least interesting if Burnham had sent this message to Dumanis so I called to ask him.

Indeed he had. He said that well before the race he had advised her not to run for mayor. She could do a lot more good for San Diego as district attorney.

And he decided recently to try again.

“I did send a message to her last week suggesting it was time for her to consider vacating the race. If she dropped out of the race, a large majority of her voters would switch to Nathan Fletcher. Therefore, I asked ‘Do you want to be a spoiler in this campaign or a hero?'” he said.

    He said she hadn’t responded.

“But she did ask Nathan to tell me to quit calling. I’m not making a campaign out of this. I’ve sent my message and, as far as I’m concerned, I don’t have to send anymore.”

Dumanis’ feistiness at the debate Sunday would indicate the plea from Burnham had the opposite effect on her.

Anyone who has to park downtown is aware that ACE parking controls most of the parking lots. The insiders are also aware of how they gained and hold control of them. Now why would Malin Burnham's grandson , owner of ACE parking donate to the Fletcher for Mayor campaign and try and get Dumanis to back off? Three guesses the first two don't count.

How did Keith Jones, the owner of Ace Parking get the majority, of not all the parking concessions contracts? Aren't these people part of the economic stranglehold on city and county politics? I know Dumanis is being supported by most all law enforcement organizations, which I believe, is reflective her career, the best way to get along is to go along. She is very proud of her prosecution conviction rate, she brags it is one of the highest in the state. As we have witnessed, high prosecution rates don't necessarily result in justice. As in the case of the brutally murdered victim that reported being raped and kidnapped but received no protection from Dumanis's investigators. They didn't want to prosecute, because they said, there wasn't enough evidence to successfully win a conviction.

Burnham and Jone's are card carrying leaders of the downtown power elite. If they want Dumanis out of the race, voters should take note. I suspect they fear that if Bonnis become mayor, their reign over City Hall will be over.

I never knew about the Ace parking/Malin Burnham lashup either; however it seems natural to me. That's how it's done in San Diego, of course. And now I also know why Ace Parking gets most every city parking contract. I'm not implying they do a lousy job; they're competent, but their lobbying costs must be very small.

The issue with her being in is that some are likely thinking her in makes DeMaio/Filner more likely for a run-off, her out gives Fletcher more of a chance.

In the most recent debate, Ms. Dumanis admirably held Mr. Fletcher accountable. Indeed, she pointed out that he didn’t even understand his own right to vote in the primary election. The Wizards of Oz are worried, but the electorate needs to be vigilant about the little men behind the curtain.
