Voice of San Diego approaches news gathering and reporting differently than most traditional newsrooms.
We get a lot of questions about objectivity, etc. — the big issues facing media. These are the guiding principles and ideas we hand out to reporters. We hope they help answer any questions you might have.
We only do something if we can do it better than anyone or if no one else is doing it.
We must add value. We must be unique.
Three things to remember for each story:
• Not just what is happening, but what it means
There is no such thing as objectivity.
There is such thing as fairness.
But everyone sees everything through their own filter. Acknowledge that, let it liberate you. Let it regulate you.
