Thanks, Officer Heibeh

By Sean Gaffney, Kensington

Wednesday, March 21, 2007 | The story on the Somali police officer Abdiweli Heibeh was excellent. It has obvious implications for our efforts in Iraq and elsewhere, and I hope that the federal government realizes that men and women like this constitute our best chance to forge peaceful relationships with Islamic communities. I congratulate and thank Officer Heibeh for his service.

I used to work with Officer Heibeh. He is just as the article advertised: a dedicated, respected officer whose ties to the Somali community ensure a good working relationship with the Police Department. On top of that, he's just a really nice guy.

Abdiweli is good people. I'm waiting for the "just another high school grad" comment from Billy Bob Henry.

Thanks D-I think this is the type of guy SDPD SHOULD BE HIREING, and fills a big need in a minority community, and he is not one of the yahoo's that have nothing going for them except ex military service.
