Who's Lying

Published: Monday, July 2, 2007 8:25 PM PDT

Wow. So Sunroad Enterprises claims that the Mayor's Office has asked the company to stop giving money to the city as part of a charitable donation initiated years ago to fund a fire helicopter. Then, the Mayor's Office says that is wholly untrue. Doesn't it mean that one of them is just plain lying?

My goodness Scotty, don't overlook the possibility that they're both lying, and the truth is elsewhere. Throughout the sordid Sunroad affair both the Mayor and Sunroad have proven an ability to carefully parse words, mislead, and lie very effectively. So, to use your words, maybe both of them are "just plain lying." Once again, thanks to a free press, I imagine we'll get enough information to decide for ourselves. That, of course, is absent someone doing the right thing and just coming forth and admitting the truth. What a shame that doesn't happen more often.

Sounds like it, but then again, knowing how scummy Sainz operates, he could put the matter in Aguirre's hands and effectively kill the deal, without coming right out and saying as much. What more can we expect from an office so morally corrupt? But at least now we know why the Mayor bent over backwards to try and save the building. It wasn't about the campaign donation, it was about the helicopter.

Well the Mayor's office has proven to have certain shortcomings for sure, however, if we look at the record of honesty in this situation I certainly think that a bogus play like this fits in with Sunroads corporate ethics (or lack thereof). 1. They constructed an unsafe building when they knew it was unsafe. 2. In a fit of arrogance, they ignored the requests of the city to not build the building that high. 3. When they finally agree to take the building down that they knew they shouldn't have built in the first place, they have the gall to issue a press release stating there intention to sue the citizens and make them pay for the problem that they created. Based on that, I think it is pretty easy to see who the sleaze bags are in this situation. BOYCOTT SUNROAD!!!!

Sunroad was directed by the Mayor to lower their building profile.... maybe Sunroad wants to use that money to make up their losses..

Regardless of who's lying, don't ignore the potential danger here, that being Copter 1 being not available or less available.Remember that the copter was originally a part time deal -- going off of contract two days before the Cedar Fire hit SD.Remember that SDFD begged for the money to keep the copter on contract through that infamous weekend, but was denied.Let's not go back to those days.

RE: Blame...Sunroad ran a self-promoting, full-page ad in Sunday's UT boasting of its "$1 million commitment" to funding the chopper -- as well as a "$100,000 pledge" for a children's computer lab in the new Serra Mesa Library, which sits in Councilmember Frye's district. Et tu, Donna?

All great commentary for a change. Usually, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Perhaps neither is lying. Remember, companies cannot enter into contracts with the City while the City has pending litigation against them, so though the City could not enter into a new contract with Sunroad, the existing contracts would still be valid. I'm fairly certain both Sunroad and the City are aware of this and that they will confirm a misunderstanding of all involved.

Exactly right Concerned. Aguirre shouldn't have fired a warning shot with an atomic weapon. Don't worry Mike, now it doesn't matter how high the building is, the helocopter is grounded. Maybe you can accuse it of being corrupt or in a conspiracy with the next wildfire. That may solve the problem. Way to "look out" for the people.
