Valet No More
Published: Monday, August 13, 2007 6:49 PM PDT
City Attorney Mike Aguirre announced this afternoon that the approximately 80 parking spots in Balboa Park that had been reserved for valet parking had been returned to public parking.
In an interview, Aguirre, who said he was calling from the location of the parking spots, said the signs reserving the spots for valet had been removed and that the Park and Recreation Department will soon paint over similar indications on the asphalt.
"They're being reclaimed by the people of San Diego," he said.
Aguirre claimed valet service at the park was illegal because a public vote is required before land at Balboa Park could be leased out for storing valet-parked cars.
