(Second) Worst Person in the World?

Published: Friday, November 16, 2007 11:51 AM PST

Ouch! If you haven't seen this yet, check it out. This calls to mind the 2005 Time magazine story that depicted former Mayor Dick Murphy as one of the three worst heads of municipal government in the nation. Whether Mike Aguirre deserves Keith Olbermann's tag as the second worst person in the world yesterday (behind Rush Limbaugh!) doesn't matter. It's devastating.

Correction: The Time magazine piece appeared in 2005, just before Murphy resigned. The original post had the wrong year.

Keith is telling it like it is. Anyone who doesn't see Aguirre as subversive to our city government is either blind or ignorant. We know which one you are Billy...

Just when things had quieted down with our City Attorney, Keith Oberman, host of MSNBC Countdown news entertainment program names Michael Aguirre the 2nd Worst Person in the World. Thanks Keith, now Mike has something new to shoot for while still attempting to reprensent us as our City Attorney. I shutter at the thought of what he’ll do now to earn the title of Worst Person in the World.

Way to continue the slop, Scott. Olbermann on MSNBC hasn't been relevant since, well, never. And you seem to be doing your best to reinforce the stereotype that anybody with a pc can write pointless blogs. You're not doing Andrew or Will any favors when it comes to credibility.

Right on, Keith-O!!! I don't know how Mr. O got hold of this, but once again -- remember the national reputation we built as "Enron by the sea"? -- San Diego takes a black eye because of the folly that is Mike Aguirre. If other people in other parts of the country "get it" about how dangerous and/or looney Mikey is, why don't we right here in SD? Why do I say "dangerous"? Having come out of the broadcast field, I know how easy it is for some to trample on the First Amendment right of free speech. KPBS editors have the right to choose who may or may not appear on the station. Mr. Aguirre, just keep your snoot where it belongs, and leave the free press alone. If not, it may come back to bite you, a la Keith-O. Great call, Keith!

I won't defend Aguirre, but I will say that the person who does stupid things in public is not as bad as the people who manipulate events in private that benefit their own greed and ambition. I always know what Aguirre is about, but there is a host of government officials, union leaders, and others who do very sleazy activities behind back doors. They are much worse, in my opinion. Unfortunately the public has short term memory loss and never seems to recall what problems these marginal types cause come election time.

I found the whole Time magazine thing to be silly. Who can name the other two terrible mayors of that year off the top of their heads? What were the worst mayors of 2006? Murphy was not a terrible mayor. He just got bad press, Time magazine included.

'Another talking head on a subject he knows little about. 'Sounds like he took Kittle & Co's spin (Aguirre appeared 15 times and is mad because of that) and ran with it. I'm with Leanne1, on this one.

It is nice to see Mikey is gaining a reputation nationally.

are. Mike could do nothing that would get you off his leg. You and BBH will be his apologists no matter what. Literally, no matter what. Very strange.

This should be a real wake up call for Aguirre supporters but I assume they will try to figure out how Sanders, Peters, the unions, and U-T got Olbermann in on all the "local corruption". They seem to be changing from supporters into enablers of bad behavior by someone who is gradually getting a national reputation as a total kook. And before the accusation even gets out your mouths, neither myself or any family members have any association with any unions, the Union-Tribune, the City, KPBS, Developers, or any other of Aguirre's self-proclaimed enemies.

This Olberman choice of Aguirre is irrelevant to the national audience Olberman speaks to. His choice of Aguirre is not bizarre or even a non-sequitur, rather, it is a setup by local anti-Aguirre activists who used the KPBS issue as the way to go up the ladder to Olberman. Olberman heard of this how? // Leanne said it best: I'd rather have a city attorney and politicians who work in the sunshine, even if they are often at fault, than have nefarious, back-room, black market political deals done in the shady darkness of the mayor and council members' offices. // The masses who vote in San Diego will support the crazy guy who they know for better or worse than the so-called community leader cum conspirator they don't know. Perfect example: Alan Bersin would lose against Aguirre in a landslide, as would Peters.

Is it too late to nominate Keith Olbermann as the Second Worst Person in the World?

Olbermann said Aguirre is the second worst person in the world? Wow. That alter kacker Herb Klein sure gets around, doesn't he? Or is it the fine, fine folks at the U-T? Like many others, I agree that Aguirre has a personality as cuddly as a cactus, but he's all we've got to combat the Good Ol' Punk network that misrules this burg. What we're seeing now is the cheerleader/harpy squad called Media doing the nasty at the beck and call of folk who own the society we live in. Pity.

Mike Aguirre is the second worst person in the world? YEEEHAA! Boy are we glad to hear that! Sincerely, George Bush, Dick Cheney, Condoleeza Rice, Nancy Pelosi, Ahmad Ahkmandinejad, Pervez Musharraf, Osama Bin Laden, Paris Hilton, Donald Trump and Bob Kittle. We approve this message.

Leanne1, if you know Mike personally, you understand that even he does not always know what he is about. If you don't know Mike personally, you are not qualified to make such a judgment.

"Olbermann on MSNBC hasn't been relevant since, well, never." I would enjoy learning from you, Larry, the reason that you do not find Keith Olbermann relevant. As a progressive, I have long enjoyed "Countdown," and with the demise of KLSD, I value Mr. Olbermann's intervews and comments even more. Are you a Republican, Larry, or do you customarily throw around such facile judgments because you cannot defend your opinions any other way?

What a canundrum I'm in: I don't care for uber-whacko Mikey Aguirre, but I really really really "dislike" America hater Keith Olbermann.

Hey the D, Olberman is not an America hater, he's a Bush/ Cheney hater -- get it straight. I don't agree with everything he says, particularly this incongruous Aguirre attack, but he has a lot of good to say defending America from the evil likes of Bush/ Cheney. You gotta agree that our administration is the most willfully negligent ever, leading us to economic and social catastrophe -- just ask wall street what it thinks about the idea of attacking Iran! Olberman spells this out to a national audience as do many others, and if you follow in the footsteps of Jesus and ask 'What Would Jesus Do' or 'Who Would Jesus Bomb' then your sure to see the light like the rest of the world and the vast majority of Americans who give Bush a 33% approval rating.
