The Debates in Focus

While Thursday night's mayoral debate was not exactly chock full of surprises, it was a nice venue to capture some memorable, slightly off-beat moments. A look through our lens provides an interesting view of some of the more humorous highlights of the local politicking taking place last night. Viewers remember, it's all in good fun.

In our first slide, Eric Bidwell, the self-proclaimed revolutionary candidate, shows off his ear accessories to the ever-so-curious businessman Steve Francis before the debate.

Throughout the debate, Bidwell looked a bit skeptical at some of the other candidates' statements. Here he looks on as the mayor lays out his positions.

But it looks like Bidwell and the rest of the candidates could really become good pals. Even though some of Bidwell's remarks were digs at the current mayor, Sanders seemed to take it all in stride, laughing heartily at the young candidate's characterization of local politics.

Away from the mayoral debate, the finale of the District 1 segment provided one of the more awkward moments of the night, between Marshall Merrifield and Sherri Lightner. We've all been there before. It's the whole, "Are we hugging or are we shaking hands?" moment. Misreading it, particularly in front of a high-speed camera, can be troublesome.

In the interest of fairness, if anyone captures a photo of me in a less-than-flattering moment throughout this campaign season, send it our way and we'll be sure to post it. Get my good side, please. Editor's Note: Or at least his better side.
