I would like to take the opportunity to thank both voiceofsandiego.org and its readers for the chance to express the many reasons why I think Sherri Lightner is the BEST candidate for City Council’s District 1. Hopefully, I was able to clearly convey my reasons for supporting her and am glad that -- but for a few exceptions -- both bloggers and commentators were able to keep the dialogue open, honest and civil.

It was heartwarming to read that I am not alone in my support of Sherri. There are many other voters in District 1 who want their city council member to represent neighborhoods, to protect their quality of life and to even the playing field, ensuring that everyone gets an equal break and has to abide by the same rules. Sherri has a proven track record of doing this, and she is poised and ready to be an effective city council member for District 1.

I encourage all of you to "follow the money” and pay particular attention to how much the candidates contribute to their own campaigns and where the contributions from outside the district are coming from.

In a little over a month, you will be asked to cast your vote for someone who will be your voice in City Hall. Sherri has the widest base of support of people inside District 1.

Sherri has been out walking in all the neighborhoods, meeting people, listening to concerns and appearing at numerous public events. I hope that you have a chance to meet her in your neighborhood.

Keep checking Sherri’s website for more information on neighborhood issues and how to contact her yourself. I hope you’ll join me in supporting Sherri Lightner.

You certainly are not alone in supporting Sherri. At a community forum at La Jolla Village Square Wednesday night after the candidates finished taking questions from the audience the sponsors took a straw poll. Sherri prevailed. I must say I find the dynamics of this race very intriguing. Phil seems to have all his fire aimed at Sherri and More of the Same Merrifield seems to have directed all his fire at Phil. Sherri doesn't seem to be firing on anyone. Makes her look like the most confident one in the field.

I wish to commend both Ms Ashley,for her civil advocacy and Ms Lightner for her aspirations to serve her constituency.Ms Lighnter's conduct at the public forums has been above reproach and she's acquitted herself very well on behalf of the La Jolla Shores community. Therein,however,lies the rub.La Jolla is,and has ever been,a rarified,indeed almost amneotic Village.Neither its narrow local political discourse nor its priviledged constituent demographics are in any way reflective of District One as a whole.Without being acrimonious but candid one wonders what solutions Ms Lighnter might suggest for the crime problem at the Canyonview Apts in Penasquitos or with what innovative partnerships the new Fire Station 47 in the District was recently built?What real municipal experience does Ms Lightner bring to the table when the gravitas of the City's challenges ill afford us the luxury of learning curves? No doubt she's a nice person but: ?Ready NOW?

As a La Jolla resident for over twenty years I find the election process true to form - myopic and xenophobic. San Diego is a small minded city and La Jolla is at the forefront of this thinking. Keeping things just as they are seems to be the driving force among this cityâ��s political players. Stability is an excuse for doing as little as possible â�� fresh ideas and people are not embraced because real change is a threat. Change is the enemy for too many in the enclave that is La Jolla. If we cannot even get street lights on La Jolla Scenic North, how can we expect anything from candidates from the status quo set?
