"Fiesta Island is for the people of San Diego - and that includes the dog owners (who happen to be people). It's PEOPLE who come to Fiesta Island for the off-leash benefits. The dog owners (www.fidosd.org) aren't fighting for the dogs, they are fighting for their own recreational space."

"I love dogs, love this cartoon and hope that San Diego has rooms for dogs at Fiesta Island. I propose it be renamed something like Scooby Doo Isle... maybe a naming contest to raise funding, and charge a small fee to pay for doggy doo bag dispensers, and doggy water fountains. Yes I'm dreaming."

"I completely agree with Kate. This is one of only a few spots in San Diego County that "people who happen to be dog owners" can take their four legged friends to run freely. It should be available to all people, not just some people who happen to not be dog owners."

"Kate, for pity sakes. Give her a break. It's meant to be (and is) humorous."

"I just can not see why the city is pushing for this. There are a TON of existing areas in Mission Beach that need help. Fiesta Island seems to work "as is" - serving the OTL and dog communities fairly well. Wouldn't the right thing to do just to leave well enough alone - and put the $$$ into upgrades throughout the rest of the park. Once you get those done (in perhaps my toddlers lifetime) then we can revisit Fiesta island."

"Well, as a dog who appreciates humor, I enjoyed the cartoon very much. Two paws up for having cartoons in Voice of San Diego! Woof."

"The place works well as it is. The City will not have the funds to maintain anything new or will take money from existing parks. Security will also be a challenge especially with restrooms. Didn't two dog walkers recently get carjacked on Fiesta ? I imagine more of the same if you invite the general public to recreate there at all hours. And then there is the light bill assuming the area will be lit. Bad bad bad and I don't have a dog."

"Just a reminder that the Island is speed limit 15-25 and a shared use path all the way around. We will need more self policing if we want to continue to share the Island as is with cyclist, joggers and fisherman."

"I think the whole island for dogs is a little too much. I take my dogs there every weekend so I can run with them but I can go on a 3.5 mile run through the whole fenced part of the island if I stay on the edges of the trail and I think we are giving dogs too much space to roam free. We need to develop trails for hikers and recreational bikers (not road bikers). But I am definitely against developing the island however we need better fencing, I am getting tired of seeing off roaders get together by the fenced area after rain spells to screw up the sand with their tires. They do more harm than anyone else, we just need more fairness on the island by promoting more recreational activities instead of just keeping the island for dogs, road bikers, runners and horses."
