Mayor's Campaign Manager Resigns
Published: Friday, May 23, 2008 12:05 PM PDT
The manager of Mayor Jerry Sanders' reelection campaign, Michael McSweeney, resigned Friday after his efforts to persuade a lesser-known candidate to attack the mayor's chief rival, Steve Francis, were revealed.
McSweeney confirmed that he has submitted his letter of resignation to the campaign this morning.
His resignation comes as a reaction to an announcement last night by self-proclaimed revolutionary candidate Eric Bidwell that McSweeney tried to persuade him to read a statement bashing the mayor's top challenger.
"Last night at midnight I wrote a letter of resignation that I presented to the campaign this morning," McSweeney said. "It basically said that I used poor judgment. No one on the campaign knew about it but I apologized to the mayor and the campaign team."
We'll have more to come.
