The San Diego City Council today passed a $3.2 billion budget for fiscal 2009 that includes the restoration of 62 positions that Mayor Jerry Sanders cut in his original budget proposal.
The Mayor's Office vowed to veto the changes, which means the council will have to vote again if it wants to restore the jobs -- most of which are in the parks and recreation and library budgets.
The council's vote was 6-2, with Councilmen Jim Madaffer and Kevin Faulconer voting no. With its action, the council went along with the recommendation of Andrea Tevlin, the city's independent budget analyst.
