Labor Goes Gloria

Published: Thursday, August 28, 2008 8:14 PM PDT

District 3 City Councilman candidate Todd Gloria received the endorsement today of the San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council, giving him major labor institutional backing as he squares off against fellow Democrat Stephen Whitburn.

The umbrella group for more than 120 unions across two counties, the Labor Council previously issued a shared endorsement for Gloria, Whitburn and John Hartley in the primary. Gloria and Whitburn, the top-two vote getters, are now battling for the spot.

A release from Gloria's campaign said Gloria's "personal record of supporting workers' rights earned him the necessary 2/3 votes cast by local union members."

Update: I mistakenly attributed the above quote to the Labor Council in the original post. I apologize.
