Goldsmith Campaign Ad

Published: Tuesday, October 21, 2008 3:28 PM PDT

City attorney challenger Jan Goldsmith's campaign just released a television commercial that will begin airing in San Diego tomorrow.

Titled "Squirrels," the ad, which focuses on negative coverage of incumbent Mike Aguirre's tenure at the city, starts off with a snippet from Aguirre's own commercial, in which Aguirre says "Sure I could have done some things differently."

Then the commercial makes an apparent reference to Aguirre's order in spring 2007 that the city's Parks and Recreation Department stop exterminating rodents in city parks because doing so could be illegal.

"Seems he'll talk about squirrels, but he won't talk to the Chargers. It's crazy," the narrator on the commercial says.

Goldsmith's no stranger to rodents himself. As I reported in this profile of him, when Goldsmith was a legislator, he authored a bill on the decriminalization of the ownership of ferrets as pets.

Aguirre's been running television ads since Sept. 20. Here's his ad:
