A Week's Thoughts on Tenth Avenue

Published: Sunday, October 12, 2008 4:55 PM PDT

We kind of peppered them over the week, last week, but there was a lot of good commentary on the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal and Proposition B, which would wrest planning control of that property away from the port and possibly put a deck on top of it.

We're supposed to dream of what we want to put on top of that deck.

At the beginning of the week, we had former banker and head of CCDC Peter Q. Davis write about how Proposition B was a good idea and a chance to remind the port it represents the public's interest. A few readers then brought up some questions for Davis to answer.

Then we had a pair of perspectives to consider. One, from the lead proponent of the effort, Frank Gallagher. The other was an unflattering analysis of the plan laid out by the San Diego Institute for Policy Research and its CEO, Erik Bruvold.

Then we had John McLaurin from the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association, hosting the blog and arguing that it was all a pie-in-the-sky dream.

Check them out if you missed them. And send me your thoughts if you think none of them knew what they're talking about.

i'm confused. could somebody please tell me why a new stadium can't be built next to the old one like so many other cities are doing or have done? it's funny how people are bitching about the broadway navy complex redo will take away views, when that part of downtown's views were taken away by the dozens of office and condo towers built over the past 20 years. it would only rob views of the owners of recent downtowners in their overpriced condos. this new downtown stadium would rob anyone in logan heights/barrio logan/sherman heights of their view, but i don't see anyone giving 2 cents about that. this whole concept is so shortsighted and bizarre. tell me you want to be watching the chargers when an earthquake hits.
