Human Trafficking Close to Home

By Lindsay Sprenger, Point Loma

Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009 | I just read the article about El Cajon Blvd. and prostitution, but I noticed Keegan Kyle didn't mention anything about prostitutes as trafficking victims. I know not all of them are victims, but we'd be surprised how many are. San Diego needs more research on human/sex trafficking; it's a huge problem here, but people don't realize it. Maybe you guys could write an article about it? The Global Forum on Human Trafficking was in Carlsbad last week. It's a start, but we have a long way to go.

you're absolutely right...the number of persons involved in prostitution that were placed there as slaves is often forgotten. what saddens me equally is the truth that just as many who were not trafficked are there just as much against their will, even by their own initial bidding, whatever the reason. the two are different as far as blatant choice, though on a human level there is little difference. my hope is that those who willingly involved themselves in the beginning would recognize those who were born in or sold to the lifestyle and redeem their human right to re-connect with love. back to the simple equation of we are all one. this could be done in acknowledging the pain they see in someone else, thus remembering their own. there is a light. we are all one in all ways.

60% of prostitutes are under the age of 18. Good people are coming together to end this scourge locally, nationally and internationally. The DAYTON HUMAN TRAFFICKING ACCORDS Symposium is a 2 day, free and open to the public event held in Dayton Ohio on Nov. 9-10th, and has a San Diego connection. What the Dayton Peace Accords did to end war in Yugoslavia, The DAYTON HUMAN TRAFFICKING ACCORDS Symposium will do to end slavery in our lifetime! New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristoff, who has crusaded against human trafficking by chronicling crimes against girls and women in the Third World, will be lecturing at UCSD in November.
