Before joining the staff in March 2008, Joaquin spent two years working on a variety of projects for The Center for Public Integrity, an award-winning non profit investigative journalism organization based in Washington DC. At the Center, Joaquin worked on an examination of legislators who went on to become lobbyists, and was the lead reporter on a year-long investigation of the federal government's program to clean-up toxic waste throughout the United States. Joaquin is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Cruz, where he double-majored in Environmental Studies and Politics.
As a student, he lived and studied in South Africa and Costa Rica.
