I’m a partner in the new Aztec Brewing Co. which was launched last summer. I just read the fantastic article in Voice of San Diego about the original Aztec Brewing Co. murals. I’ve been aware of the murals for some time.

My partners and I are reviving the old brand with a new look and a line of contemporary craft beers. Our CFO (Claudia Faulk) is an San Diego State University “Aztec” and currently finishing up her master’s in educational technology there. Claudia and I are also artists and have run a graphic design studio in San Diego County for 25 years. We got into the beer business to have a brand of our own to promote and create art for. The Aztec Brewing Co. with its colorful history captivated our imagination.

As artists and illustrators we are very excited to see the original murals renovated and brought back to life.

Beyond the murals and artifacts we have been delighted by the piece of San Diego history we have tapped into. Since we opened our doors, we have been contacted by many family members of the original brewery owners and employees. Last week we were visited by the son of one of the original brewers (Alvin B. Daniels III) who was full of stories about his dad and his uncle who was one of the founders.

Thanks for the article and I am looking forward to the next segment tomorrow.
