San Diego Grantmakers
Who We Are
When people feel strongly about giving back to their community, they typically strive to do everything they can with what they have to give. They want to know things like the impact of their philanthropy, who else supports the causes they care about, and how they can combine forces. Providing answers to questions like these is what San Diego Grantmakers is all about.
San Diego Grantmakers is a nonprofit membership association for organizations and individuals who are strategic about philanthropy and provide significant funding to multiple nonprofits. What started in the mid-70s as an informal “lunch bunch” of a few grantmaking foundations has grown to a network of more than 100 foundations, corporate giving programs, individual donors, grantmaking public charities, giving circles, and government grantmakers.
What We Do
• Connect grantmakers to each other
• Connect grantmakers to knowledge and best practices
• Facilitate collaboration among funders and across sectors
• Increase awareness of philanthropy’s role and impact in communities
• Leverage local philanthropy to help bring more resources to our region
Our services include monthly educational programs, online resources, and an annual conference that help funders learn about best practices in philanthropy and community needs. Perhaps our most distinctive service is the facilitation of funder and cross-sector collaboration on issues like education, workforce development, veterans support, homelessness, transitioning foster youth, social equity, and food security. Whether these groups are engaged in shared learning or combining resources, San Diego Grantmakers provides the support necessary to make such collaboration possible.
Additionally, members of San Diego Grantmakers have a valuable link to more than 5,500 colleague funders across the country. Any staff, trustee, or donor of a San Diego Grantmakers member may take advantage of SDG’s services.
