Here are some readers’ recent thoughts on the issues.

Patrick Hatfield:

There’s a great need for public restrooms along the trolley lines! Can you smell the urine? I can. Downtown San Diego has that “urine scent” much like downtown L.A., and it just shouldn’t be! Please install restroom facilities along most trolley stations. Our city is capable of this, and it would make trolley riders more comfortable, along with most people in those areas.

Barry Vollmer:

I am an avid bike rider, road and mountain. But I have little use for the methodology or philosophy of Critical Mass. As far as I’m concerned they do more harm than good. I do my best to accommodate drivers and to not antagonize them. I spend too much time on the road and am way too exposed to be able to afford to piss off anyone behind the wheel.

The idea of public restrooms at trolley stops brings to mind our public restrooms at parks and beaches- places to avoid if in any way possible. They are fuuuunky.

San Diego claims to be a tourist destination however they don't provide the basis necessity of public restrooms that are found in London and major cities in Europe. Take cruise ships that stop here for a visit and the passengers find they have to go eat in a restaurant in order to use their restroom. How much money is spent on the bozos promoting tourism in San Diego? How about spending that money on public restrooms. Sure the homeless would use them too but that would be better than having them pee on downtown doorways.
