We had another great turn out for our new One Voice at a Time conversation series Thursday. Our Scott Lewis sat down with San Diego City Attorney Jan Goldsmith on the patio of Downtown Johnny Brown’s just outside City Hall.

They discussed a wide variety of topics including the recent melee at Balboa Park’s lily pond, and Goldsmith reminded everyone that it could have been much worse.

“They could have been using real guns,” he told the audience that included a variety of VOSD members, local poli-wonks and city insiders.

In a funny exchange, Goldsmith, a Republican, refused to rule out endorsing Democrat Bob Filner for mayor.

As CityBeat’s Kelly Davis tweeted: “Never thought a talk between @vosdscott and Jan Goldsmith could be so entertaining. Haven’t laughed this much in awhile.”

Check out what others said about it on Twitter at #onevoicesd.

A big thanks goes out to Todd at Downtown Johnny Brown’s for being so hospitable, the city’s Parks & Rec. department for providing the chairs, City TV for loaning the microphones, Jonathan Heller for helping coordinate and Jan Goldsmith for being so open and engaging.

Our next One Voice at a Time will feature San Diego City Councilman David Alvarez on Thursday, September 6 at Ryan Brothers. Stay tuned for details. We hope you can join us!

We’ve tallied the results of the most recent VOSD News Quiz, which turned out to be a little more challenging than last month’s test.

Still, we have a tie for first place. Brad Beyenhof and David Gatzke both answered 12 of the 15 questions correctly. Both will win a ticket to the upcoming Atlantic Meets Pacific conference.

Jim Neri takes second place with 11 correct answers. He wins a one-month membership to Co-Merge shared workspace.

In third place, we have a four-way tie. Jeff Smith, Larry Little, Mark Stadler and Lee Nevis all win VOSD vintage shirts (plus whatever cool stuff we can find in the newsroom closet).
