Bob Kittle was the public face of the San Diego Union-Tribune, appearing as its institutional voice in public, on the radio and on television throughout the region.
He was also a very polarizing figure whose paint-peeling editorials did everything from break important news, scare politicians into action and even inflame bogus controversy.
