Drivers Can Help Fix Potholes

Stations with hot asphalt would be located all over town and the driver could fill as many potholes per day as he or she had time to fill.

This was submitted as an idea to the Politifest 2012 Idea Tournament. VOSD members will vote on the best ideas and on Sept. 19 we’ll announce six contenders (Not a member? Join now to vote). At Politifest on Sept. 29, each of the six finalists will have five minutes to pitch their idea to a panel. The panel rates the ideas and two finalists advance. The crowd at Politifest will vote on a winner. The winner will receive an “idea-inspired” trophy custom-designed by former City Councilwoman Donna Frye. VOSD CEO Scott Lewis will also write about the winner’s idea.

Here is a solution to our massive pothole problem: All of us who play golf are familiar with the sand bottle on each electric cart which is used to fill divots caused by the golfer hitting the turf with his club and causing turf to be dug from the fairway. For potholes, every car would be fitted with a bracket on the back from which would hang a small bucket and trowel. The driver would go to the designated pick-up point and fill his bucket with hot asphalt every day. When the driver saw a nasty pothole she would pull over and fill it using the trowel to scoop out the asphalt in the bucket. Stations with hot asphalt would be located all over town and the driver could fill as many potholes per day as he or she had time to fill.

Pothole problem solved.
