Dear Editor:
The plight of Starlight is very sad indeed. We used to attend regularly until we just got tired of all the interruptions of the planes overhead. The novelty of the “freeze in place” of the actors while the planes scream past wears off eventually.
The symphony also used to perform in the amphitheater in years past. They, too, gave up long ago.
Even further north at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion, plane noise intrudes on concerts constantly.
The city leaders and our congress people “missed the boat” when the Navy’s Top Gun School vacated the air base at Miramar. At that time they should have pressed for that large base to become the new San Diego International Airport. Instead, they forced the marines to move here from the El Toro base to maintain a military payroll in the area. Now Lindberg Field is the congested, land-locked, noisy mess that has long been predicted, and we are stuck with plane noise over our beloved Balboa Park.
