The Last Waltz of SANDAG’s Mileage Fee 

Conservative leaders have for years fought a proposal to charge drivers for every mile they drive, but last week it was progressives who killed SANDAG’s proposal when they said they wouldn’t support it. But the idea, which the agency couldn’t legally charge yet even if it wanted, doesn’t just bring in money to pay for transportation projects — it’s also a major way the agency’s plan proposed to slash emissions. Pulling it could put the region in legal jeopardy.
