Turnover Continues on Port Commission
Imperial Beach picks a new rep, meaning by January, only one commissioner will remain from the pre-2009 roster.
Another face changed at the Unified Port of San Diego last night, as the city of Imperial Beach appointed Dan Malcolm, a lawyer, developer and former city councilman as its representative to the Port Commission.
As I wrote last September, the entire port board is undergoing an overhaul. By January, only one of seven commissioners, National City’s Dukie Valderrama, will remain from the port’s pre-2009 roster.
Since my story ran, former Chula Vista Mayor Steve Padilla and retired engineer Lou Smith joined the board. Malcolm will replace Michael Bixler, who’s termed out in January. The Port’s transition will be complete once port veteran Steve Cushman, who’s serving a rare third term, also leaves in January. The city of San Diego will appoint his replacement.
Malcolm’s cousin is David Malcolm, the former port commissioner once involved in a conflict of interest imbroglio.
