San Diego’s waterfront is about to get a major makeover.
Seaport Village, the retail shops and restaurants on the San Diego Bay, will soon start looking very different.
The Port of San Diego has zeroed in on a plan to replace the cluster of small businesses, possibly with a beach, an aquarium, a 500-foot observation tower, a new outdoor promenade and other new amenities.
The Port is making major changes at Harbor Island, too.
But in both cases, it’s the projects’ developers, not Port officials, shaping the changes, and at least one critic says that’s not the right way to redevelop public land.
