Photos: San Diego’s Occupation Underway

More than a thousand people descended on downtown San Diego on
Friday to protest corporate greed.

 

More than a thousand protesters took to the streets of downtown San Diego on Friday to kickoff the Occupy San Diego movement.

The group marched from the Children’s Park in downtown to the San Diego Civic Center. While plans initially called for the protest to continue all night at the Civic Center, the group decided to camp Friday at the Children’s Park out of respect for a Yom Kippur service.

They plan to march back to the Civic Center on Saturday, where organizers say they plan to stay until they’ve “achieved social and economic justice.”

The group is marching in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement and other similar protesters around the country. I was on hand for one of the group’s planning meetings earlier in the week and the protest on Friday afternoon. This was the scene:
