San Diego Explained: The Pitches to Legalize and Tax Marijuana

On this week’s San Diego Explained, NBC 7 San Diego’s Monica Dean and Voice of San Diego’s Andrew Keatts discuss San Diego’s Measure N and state Prop. 64.

In November, California voters will decide on legalizing marijuana for recreational use. And in San Diego, voters will have another marijuana-related decision – a possible new tax on pot.

If approved, Prop. 64 would allow people over 21 to use marijuana legally, without a prescription. It would also allow the state to tax sales of the drug.

In San Diego, voters will also decide on whether to levy an additional local pot tax by voting on Measure N. (Measure N will be moot if Prop. 64 doesn’t pass.)

On this San Diego Explained, NBC 7 San Diego’s Monica Dean and Voice of San Diego’s Andrew Keatts discuss both local Measure N and State Prop 64.
